Lost Car Keys

As car key and lock technology continues to develop the cost of replacing lost car keys is ever growing. According to Britannia Rescue, the leading provider of breakdown cover, the cost of replacing lost car keys is four times more expensive than a decade ago.

Surveys show that one in six (16%) drivers have permanently lost their keys at least once in the past.

Replacing car keys is no longer a simple case of cutting a key, but also programming central locking and transponders to communicate with the cars ECU.

Car manufacturers have individual rates for replacing lost car keys, but some such as Ford and Nissan could cost the unfortunate motorist in excess of £300.

A sensible way to avoid these unnecessary costs is to make sure you keep a spare key in a safe place. If you do not have a spare key it would be advisable to contact a specialist car locksmith like www.TheAutoLocksmith.co.uk and get them to copy you a key.

Car locksmith’s are able to gain entry to locked vehicles without causing damage and produce a new transponder key at a fraction of main dealer costs. If you haven't made a duplicate copy of your original keys, then now is the time to do so. That way, you won’t get stuck outside, even if you forget to bring the keys with you after you lock your car keys.
